Podcast:

We Can Do Hard Things with Glennon Doyle and her wife Abby Wambach and her sister Amanda Doyle. This podcast is literally life changing. I could go on and on about how deep they dive... but I'll just say they interview people like Esther Perel, Ashley C. Ford and Brene Brown... need I say more? :)

Hi Everyone,

99% Invisible is a pretty great podcast no matter the topic. The two most recent episodes, however are among my favorites.

A deep dive into the history and legacy of Julia Morgan:

And a fascinating exploration of photography as both a science and an art and how this seemingly innocuous and net positive technology was actually pretty complicated and sometimes fraught for people of color until very, very recently.

There's a conversation club at my office called "Big Ideas", inspired by the Next Big Idea Club. Every three months or so, a new topic is introduced. The first was Maintaining a Curious Mindset, the second was Return to Purpose. As each topic is introduced, they're accompanied by an assortment of resources—podcasts, TEDtalks, articles, videos, and exercises. All of these resources are gathered into an Airtable base and assigned tags like 'work-life balance', 'leadership' or 'team building'.

I'd like to share that base here with the group! More resources are added as we find them and new topics are released quarterly.

Enjoy!

OMG, I love this! And also thanks for the intro to Airtable. I'd never heard of it, but it's *so* much more aesthetically pleasing than Excel. Hooray for good design!

A few of my most recent favorite things:

Books:

  • The Feminist City by Leslie Kern — Every single one of North American modern-day cities was designed by white men. When you think about the implications for women, people of color, indigenous people, members of the LGBT community, and differently-abled bodies, it’s no wonder that so many of us don’t feel safe or comfortable in urban contexts. An interesting exploration of where we are now and how we can hope to change our built environment to be more equitable and inclusive.

  • The Address Book: What Street Addresses Reveal About Identity, Race, Wealth, and Power by Deirdre Mask — There is something interesting on every page of this wonderful deep dive into…

A good intro to what Sponsorship is and why it's important: https://hbr.org/podcast/2019/10/sponsorship-defining-the-relationship I like this episode that discusses women's speech tendencies and ways to overcome areas of weakness: https://hbr.org/podcast/2018/01/women-at-work-make-yourself-heard
