MISSION
Who we are
We are a grassroots organization of design professionals, committed to making our allied industries more diverse, more inclusive, and more equitable. We champion the marginalized voices of design in Pittsburgh, PA. We call attention to inequities which restrict the success of women+, and actively work to challenge these injustices.
Women+ in Design PGH unequivocally condemns the systemic violence towards and oppression of Black, Indigenous, and all People of Color. We call on all people to stand with us in solidarity to work towards a safe, equitable, and inclusive society.
Why we're "Women+"
Women+ in Design is committed to welcoming and empowering individuals of all genders working in design or design-adjacent fields. Through the “+” we acknowledge the importance of banding together with other groups who have not been in positions of power and hope to bolster the diversity of our industry.
As a collective, we have the agency to demand positive change. We support our community through listening, understanding, and active discussion of the issues which affect women+ in design. We promote leadership, mentorship, and professional development initiatives to demand change to the status quo. We bring together the design community of Pittsburgh to support, celebrate, and learn from each other.
In 2020, we have grown to encompass a variety of professionals, including architects, interior designers, urban designers, urban planners, landscape architects, designers, engineers, and design-adjacent members in law and finance.
